Tools Panel:
Photoshop has so many tools, it
collects them under tool buttons on the Tools panel. Look on pages 102-104 for the Tools panel;
you will see that the second button down (the selection tool called the RECTANGULAR MARQUEE TOOL) has a little
black triangle in the lower-right corner. In Photoshop, if you click on this,
you will see the box appear that contains other selection tools.
Briefly describe the
purpose of the following Photoshop tools:

Elliptical Marquee Tool (NOTE:
Photoshop calls the “marching ants” in a selection a marquee)

2.
Magnetic Lasso Tool: Creates
freehand selections that snap to high-contrast edges in an image.

3.
Quick Selection Tool: Selects
shapes tool that it detects in the image.
|
4.
Magic Wand Tool: Will select
pixels that are similar in color to the one that is checked.
|
5.
Crop Tool: Allows you to crop an image.
|
6.
Eye Dropper Tool: It will
sample colors from an image, identifying its properties for you.
|
7.
Ruler Tool: Can measure a distant or angle, or
straighten the image.

8.
Healing Brush Tool: Can corrects
flaws based on a chosen sample area.

9.
Content-Aware Tool: Repositions
or extends an area of an image.
|
10.
Brush Tool: Will apply brush strokes which can be
modified in size and color.
|
11.
Mixer Brush Tool: Stimulates
traditional paint strokes, allowing colors to mix and smudge.

12.
History Brush Tool: Will restore
pixels from a history state or snapshot.
|
13.
Background Eraser Tool: Erases a
sampled color area to transparency.
|
14.
Gradient Tool: Creates soft blends between two or more
colors.
|
15.
Sharpen Tool: Will sharpen edges and details.

16.
Smudge Tool: Allows you to smudge colors in an image.

17.
Dodge Tool: Lightens the pixels within an image.

Burn Tool: Darkens the pixels within an image.

Pen Tool: Draws curved or straight edge shapes or
paths.

Horizontal Type Tool: Creates horizontally oriented editable
type.

Vertical Type Tool: Creates
vertical oriented editable type.

Ellipse Tool: Creates oval shape layers or paths.

Hand Tool: Moves a magnified image in the document
window for a closer view.

Zoom Tool: Changes the document zoom level.

Set Foreground Color Tool: Displays and lets you change the current
foreground color.

Other Photoshop Panels:
Briefly describe the purpose of the following Photoshop panels:

1.
Actions panel: It is a record of sequence of demands,
allowing you to record, store, edit, play, delete, save and load actions.

2.
Adjustments panel: Will display
the list of adjustments you can produce to a layer.
|
3.
Brush panel: Allows you to select brush tips and
custom brush settings for certain tools.
|
4.
Channels panel: It lists and displays the thumbnails for
all the color channels in the current document.
|
5.
Character panel: Displays the
options for the type tool, in which you can modify the font, size, ect.
|
6.
Color panel: Panel for choosing your foreground and
background colors.
|
7.
Histogram panel: Allows you
to view a graph of the distribution of
tonal ( light and dark) values, in the current image while comparing them
with modified tonal values as you adjust.

8.
History panel: Keeps record of changes and adjustments
made to image/layers.
|
9.
Info panel: Displays the current data status
information of your document.
|
10.
Kuler panel: Allows you to upload and create color
groups or color themes for free.
|
11.
Layers panel: Displays all layers of your image and
shows options for creating/editing each layer.
|
12.
Navigator panel: Allows you to
magnify the image in the document window in order to view a targeted area.

13.
Paragraph panel: Allows you to
create and edit your paragraphs.
|
14.
Properties panel: Allows you to
view the properties of each layer and make adjustments.
|
15.
Styles panel: Allows you to apply or create a custom
style for your layer(s).

16.
Swatches panel: Displays predefined and user defined
solid color swatches that are applied by various tools, filters, and commands.

17.
Timeline panel: Allows you to compose a sequence using
audio clips and video files, in which you can adjust and apply filters to.

1. Explain the technique described in this posting and ways in
which you could use it:
The technique allows you to
select an area or object in an image and
create a new layer containing the selected area in which you can then
adjust the original layer and new layer separately so that you can combine the
two to create new image. Great for changing the background in an image, and
or highlighting what you want to stand out.
